When installing fencing timbers are there any special operational procedures that should be undertaken?
Yes. To maintain the integrity of the preservative protection, if any cuts, notches or drillings are made to the fencing timbers, the exposed surfaces should be liberally brushed with an end grain preservative, such as Ensele, to the manufacturer's instructions.
Fence posts must not be pointed after treatment and the shortening of fence posts should be avoided. If posts are shortened, the cut end must never be used in ground contact.
Any fence posts that are further processed, eg planed, should be re-treated.
